Raising a dog at home
Raising a dog begins at home, from the first days of being in it, and lasts a lifetime. In the house, the animal spends a lot of time communicating with you and family members, and your society for the pet is a whole universe with its own laws. It is from home that the puppy’s upbringing begins.
Law No. 1. My home is my castle
The concept of a house for a dog can be considered at different levels. First of all, this is the home of the pet. It should be inviolable and associated with a puppy only with pleasant feelings. To accustom him to the place, you can even hide goodies for dogs or toys under his bedding. When the dog detects them, experiencing positive emotions, it will gradually remember that having its place is pleasant and interesting. In no case do not send the puppy “in place” as a punishment. Remember that for him, the place should be associated with a sense of security and comfort. This also applies to the broader concept of home – your home or apartment. Your pupil at any age should feel care, attention and love, because now he is a full member of the family.
Law No. 2. My master is the leader of the “pack”
Your dog should understand that you are in charge. Do not be afraid of you, namely, to understand your superiority. Only in this way can you make the dog obey. With cries, beatings and cruelty you will not achieve anything but aggression and mental breakdowns in your pet. The same thing will happen if you are indifferent to it. You must learn to be adamant when required, but also to show affection and affection by not allowing the dog to abuse it. And as a “pack leader”, you must communicate with the dog, telling and showing her new things. You are an indisputable authority for her, and she accepts everything that a dog learns from you as an absolute truth.
Law number 3. The leader is always right
In a natural dog pack, the leader is always right. This canine world rule applies to your family. The dog will never be offended if the leader punishes her “for the cause” (in no case do not allow yourself to be rude), and will strive to please the owner whenever possible. Already within the house you must establish a strong contact with the pet. A true dog will only be obeyed by someone it trusts. Praise your pet, constantly encourage good behavior. In matters of punishment, be consistent and fair. Remember that the dog perceives your punishment as a result of his last act, so punish him immediately after the misconduct, and not after some time, otherwise it can disorient your pet and cause him to beware of you. If the dog realizes that you are a strict but fair leader, she will begin to trust you.
Law No. 4. Everything and for all has its place
Like your dog, there may be untouchable places in your home. For example, a bed, sofa, kitchen, study, etc. It is easy to teach a dog that access to such areas is undesirable. But in no case do not scream or push the dog out of them. Teach her in a calm voice. Remember that the dog does not understand unfamiliar words, it understands intonation. If you constantly scream at the pet, then doom it to stress. Dogs are very upset by the discontent of the owner.
Law No. 5. The things of the master are the things of the master. My things – both mine and the owner
From childhood, it is important to teach the puppy to share his things. He should get used to the fact that you can pick up a toy or even a bowl of food from him. Protect your property, and especially food – in the nature of dogs. So that your pet does not decide to appropriate this or that thing, he must understand that you have the right to pick it up. This skill must be taught to a puppy from childhood, exchanging its “property” for goodies or another toy.
At the same time, the puppy must understand that the owner’s belongings are inviolable. If your dog continues to nibble, tear, or “collect” things, try to understand why this is happening. Very often, dogs thus try to “replace” the owner with things that keep his smell. Or they’re just bored and have nothing to occupy themselves with. Provide the puppy with toys, teach him to be alone for a certain time, and the problem will be solved. Sometimes this behavior is observed in puppies and young dogs that are deficient in trace elements and vitamins. In this case, it is worth revising the puppy’s diet. The optimal feeding method for puppies is a combination of dry and wet rations. You can read more about this in our article, and our application will help you choose the right diet for your baby and adjust it. Pay attention to the condition of your pet’s teeth, a specially designed test will help you with this.
Law number 6. Do not bark
Continuous dog barking can drive a person crazy. As the owner, you must teach your pet to stop it at your command. If the dog constantly barks, most likely she wants to attract attention. She wants to play with you or just chat. Many owners perceive such barking as absolutely uncontrollable, and to pacify the pet, they throw him a toy.
